Fewer than a thousand people live here, and many visitors to Castletown or the Mater hospitals pass through without realising they have entered a separate suburb. Mysterton’s tenants are mostly people who want to be close to where they work. The Mater hospitals in Pimlico and Hyde Park are within walking distance for most streets, so nurses, doctors and hospital support staff are a natural fit. Retail and hospitality workers at Castletown and young professionals commuting to the CBD make up much of the rest.
With few homes in the suburb, vacancies are infrequent, and well-kept properties can lease quickly when they do come up. Small households are the norm: couples, singles and sharers, with the occasional small family.
Schools, shops and getting around
There are no schools inside Mysterton, but neighbouring suburbs have plenty. Hermit Park State School and St Margaret Mary’s College are in Hyde Park, and The Cathedral School and Mundingburra State School are in Mundingburra. Pimlico State High School is a short drive away in Gulliver.
Castletown Shopping Centre in Pimlico is the obvious place to shop, and the CBD is about 4 km away. Mindham Park is Mysterton’s local green space, and the Ross River bikeways in Mundingburra and Hermit Park are a short ride away. Buses run along the surrounding main roads.

Mysterton’s homes are generally older, so owners should plan for regular maintenance of roofs, gutters, timber, plumbing and electrical systems, including safety switches. Roof fixings on older homes should be checked against current cyclone expectations, and termite inspections kept up to date.
Several suburbs around Mysterton were affected by the February 2019 floods. Mysterton sits back from the river, but low-lying pockets can still be exposed, so check the council’s flood maps for the specific address and make sure landlord insurance includes flood cover.
