Day-to-day shopping is easy. Parkside Plaza and The Avenues Plaza serve the suburb itself, and the larger Willows Shopping Centre sits just across the boundary in Thuringowa Central, alongside the Kirwan Health Campus. For recreation there is the Kirwan Aquatic Centre, The Willows Golf Course and more than 20 named parks, from small street reserves to larger spaces like Kirwan Park and Lakeside Park.

Thuringowa Drive and Riverway Drive are the main routes out. Riverway Drive heads towards Douglas, JCU and the hospital, while Thuringowa Drive connects to the Bruce Highway and the rest of the northern suburbs. Local buses run along the main roads, but most Kirwan tenants drive, so off-street parking for two cars is a real advantage.
