Having Northern Beaches State High School and St Anthony’s Catholic College in the suburb draws families from across the northern corridor, and many choose to rent within walking distance. Defence members, particularly from RAAF Base Townsville about 10 km away, and tradespeople working in the northern industrial areas are also well represented.
Tenants usually want three or four bedrooms, a secure yard and parking for two cars. A pool or shed is a bonus. Families who settle near their children’s school often stay for several years.

The Bruce Highway runs past the suburb, giving easy access to the city, the airport and RAAF Base Townsville to the south, and the northern beaches to the north.
Local considerations for landlords
Many Deeragun homes are now a couple of decades old. They are generally built to modern cyclone standards, but many are reaching the age where air-conditioners, hot water systems, ovens and cooktops need replacing, and kitchens and bathrooms may look dated. Planned upgrades avoid mid-tenancy breakdowns and keep your home competitive with newer estates in Burdell and Mount Low.
Low-lying land near creeks and drainage corridors should be checked on the council’s flood maps. Landlord insurance should cover storm, cyclone, flood and loss of rent.
